If you’ve visited the recipe side of FETG, you know that I am a gal that loves her some chicken. Not only do I rarely ever get tired of it, I actually CRAVE it at times – especially a really good chicken sandwich.
After hearing some buzz about PDQ, a new (to Dallas, anyway) chain that specializes in chicken, both fried and grilled (my trainer thanks you), it was Go Time. Let’s review, shall we?
You can either dine-in in or drive-thru, which is what I opted for since I had 4 other hungry folks to feed. PDQ uses the “order from a live person” system which I really like. Pull around to window #2 and another friendly folk delivers you your food. The food wasn’t lightning fast coming out to the car but, after seeing how fresh and gorgeous the food was, it was well worth the wait. This isn’t fast food, this good (if not GREAT) food that you can get fast.
We had 4 orders of the Cali Club sandwich, one 3-piece tender order, 3 regular fries, and one zucchini fries.
That’s right – ZUCCHINI FRIES.
IKR?!? More on that in a sec, tho.
People, I can honestly say that other than In-N-Out Burger, I have never had food this fresh come out of a drive-thru window. You know how nothing you get through a window looks ANYTHING like the pictures advertising it?? Umm, yeah, not here. Take a gander at this beauty. And all I did was pull it from its little box house and unwrap it. Truth.
I mean, really. How freaking gorgeous is that sandwich?? Every piece of it was perfect. If it was supposed crispy or juicy or crunchy or creamy, or whatever, it was. Perfectly seasoned. You can actually taste every part of the sandwich. Nothing hits you over the head except YUM. Also, the peeps at PDQ know how to build a sammich so that it doesn’t fall apart after the first bite, a huge plus in my book.
Okay, so now on to the fried part of the show. The tenders (I was told, by a Chicken Tender Expert) were fantastic. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside with several dipping options (the CTE chose Honey Mustard and wasn’t disappointed). The fresh cut fries were a big hit with everyone but, the zucchini fries…those were almost a religious experience. We were totally blown away. The batter was super light but had great flavor, incredible crunch, and it CAME FROM A DRIVE-THRU. I’d expect to see a Yeti riding a unicorn through a field of carb-free potatoes before I’d get that kind of zucc fry passed to me through a window. Plus, this was AFTER I drove home (about 10-15 mins). I can’t imagine how fab they’d be if you ate in (do it and report back, will ya? Actually, I’ll prolly just see you there.).
My one regret? Not getting their seasonal shake flavor – banana pudding. AS A SHAKE, PEOPLE.
TL;DR: Awesome food, super nice people, convenient drive-thru, ZUCCHINI FRIES.
Deets: (Plano location, lunchtime, drive-thru)
Note: I was in no way compensated for this review or to eat this delicious food. All opinions are my own and 100% the real deal.
